Request to revoke Western Equatoria Governor’s immunity

A member of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) has called for the lifting of Western Equatoria Governor Alfred Karaba Futuyo’s immunity after his aides were arrested for criminal activities.

The National Security Service recently apprehended three individuals in the governor’s office with counterfeit machines and fake US dollars. Among the suspects were a top security officer, Brig William John Jamal, and a private secretary, Alex Martin.

In response to the situation, Jonglei State MP Michael Ruot criticized the government’s inaction and emphasized the need to investigate Governor Futuyo’s potential involvement. He urged the Minister of Justice to request the President’s approval to remove the governor’s immunity.

Meanwhile, the governor’s Press Secretary, Alex Digi, denied Futuyo’s knowledge of the illegal activity, stating that the operation occurred in an unfinished building owned by the governor.

The demand for accountability and transparency in light of alleged criminal activities within the governor’s office underscores the urgency for thorough investigations and responsible governance.
