Washington — Rep. Lauren Boebert faces a crucial test on Tuesday as Colorado voters head to the polls in the state’s primaries. Boebert, who switched districts to run in a more conservative area, is vying for the Republican nomination in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District.
In 2020, Boebert narrowly won reelection in Colorado’s 3rd District but decided to switch to a safer Republican stronghold following Rep. Ken Buck’s retirement. While her opponent, Buck, cited political dysfunction for his early resignation in March, Boebert has been known for her controversial actions and statements.
Despite personal embarrassments and accusations of carpetbagging, Boebert has received an endorsement from former President Donald Trump. The primary election will test whether voters prioritize Boebert’s national profile or a candidate with closer ties to the district.
In a separate election, voters will also select a candidate to fill the remainder of Buck’s term. Boebert opted not to run for this position, ensuring her focus on the full term election. Regardless of the outcome, the 4th District is expected to remain under Republican control in November.
Boebert’s move has also set up a competitive race in Colorado’s 3rd District, with Democrats hoping to capitalize on far-right candidates to secure a win in November.
