Kenya sends first contingent of 400 troops to assist in Haiti
The first batch of Kenyan law enforcement officers for a UN peacekeeping mission arrived in Haiti to combat rogue gangs causing chaos. Kenya plans to send a total of 1,000 troops to help stabilize the nation where over 580,000 people have been displaced due to violence.
Welcoming Kenya’s initiative, the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) expressed optimism for improved security and access to aid. Haitian officials and President William Ruto also lauded the mission as a crucial step towards lasting stability.
Kenya’s intervention comes after a UN Security Council authorization, with support from other countries like Jamaica, the Bahamas, and Bangladesh. Despite past failed missions, Kenya remains committed to restoring peace in Haiti amid ongoing challenges.
