The escalating conflict between Israel and Palestine reached a devastating new level on Tuesday, as at least 24 Palestinians, mostly women and children, were killed in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza City. The airstrikes targeted schools and residential areas, including the historic Shati refugee camp where the extended family of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh was residing. Haniyeh, who has already lost three sons in previous attacks, remains a prominent target for Israeli forces. The airstrikes have been denounced as “massacres” by Hamas.
Hezbollah Conflict
The conflict shows no signs of abating, with international mediation efforts failing to secure a lasting ceasefire. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to end the fighting against Hamas soon, redirecting forces towards the escalating conflict with Hezbollah on the northern border. Tensions with Hezbollah have led to mass evacuations on both sides of the Israel-Lebanon border, as efforts for a diplomatic resolution continue.
The ongoing violence has left Gaza in ruins, with over 37,600 Palestinians killed and widespread malnutrition. Hospitals are facing critical shortages of essential medicines and supplies, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
