The flames were extinguished within a few minutes, but the house was filled with a significant amount of smoke, Delhi fire service officials said.
Tragedy struck a family in Dwarka’s Prem Nagar as four members lost their lives to suffocation from a fire caused by a short circuit in an inverter. The victims were identified as Heera Singh Kakkar (48), his wife Neetu (40), and their sons Robin (22) and Lakshay (21).
The Delhi Fire Services were alerted about the incident at 3.30 am and swiftly dispatched two fire tenders to the scene.
The fire originated from the first floor due to an inverter malfunction, leading to the tragic loss. Despite the quick response from firefighters, the victims could not be saved.
Access to the house was impeded by a locked iron gate, complicating the rescue operation and contributing to the fatal outcome.
Although the flames were rapidly extinguished, the thick smoke resulted in the asphyxiation of the family members, who were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the fire and ensure accountability.
