CNN — According to a report released by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), almost the entire population of Gaza is facing a high risk of famine in the next three months due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The report highlights that humanitarian access to Gaza is restricted, and only a cessation of hostilities along with sustained aid delivery can prevent a famine from occurring. The projections indicate that over 2 million people in Gaza will experience crisis levels of food insecurity, with hundreds of thousands facing catastrophic conditions.
The dire situation in Gaza, exacerbated by Israel’s bombardment and siege, has led to depleted healthcare systems, damaged water infrastructure, and widespread suffering among the population. Humanitarian workers warn that unless substantial changes are made, the crisis will worsen, leading to increased displacement, disease outbreaks, and severe food shortages.
Despite some improvements in food deliveries in certain areas, the overall trend is negative, with access to necessary aid dwindling. International pressure on Israel to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues, as the population struggles to access basic necessities for survival.
The UN has called for uninterrupted humanitarian assistance to prevent further deterioration in the region, emphasizing the urgent need for coordinated efforts to alleviate the suffering of the people in Gaza.
