Dr. Aziz al-Dweik, the Hamas-affiliated official who almost became President of the Palestinian Authority, has been repeatedly held in administrative detention by Israel. Today, he is one of many Palestinians facing Israeli intimidation.
Dr. Aziz Dweik, born in Cairo and raised in Hebron, holds a significant academic background with multiple degrees. His political involvement with Hamas began in the 1990s, leading to his nomination in the 2006 Palestinian Legislative Elections.
Despite winning, he was prevented from assuming his role as Speaker of the PLC due to US and Israeli opposition. Dr. Dweik has been subjected to administrative detention seven times by Israel, highlighting the injustice against Palestinian governance.
