China, Poland to enhance collaboration on electric vehicles

China and Poland have agreed to collaborate on electric vehicles despite the EU’s decision to increase tariffs on Chinese imports. The joint action plan for 2024-27 aims to boost investments in electric vehicles, green development, and logistics. This move comes after a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Polish President Andrzej Duda.

While the EU announced higher tariffs on Chinese EV imports, China retaliated with an anti-dumping inquiry on pork. There are talks to prevent a trade war, and Chinese companies are looking to ramp up manufacturing in Europe to circumvent the tariffs.

Poland is exploring its role in the changing automotive market with Chinese carmaker Geely. Geely is working with ElectroMobility Poland to produce electric cars starting mass production in two years.

Chinese companies like Leapmotor and BYD are already setting up operations in Europe. Chery has partnered with Spanish firm Ebro-EV Motors to produce cars in Barcelona. The push into Europe aligns with China’s goal to bolster exports and economic growth in the EV sector.
