BYD, the Chinese automaker known for its electric vehicles, has recently introduced its newest model, the Seal EV, in Japan. Priced at 5.28 million yen, it is BYD’s most expensive offering in the Japanese market. This move comes as a challenge to domestic automakers, as BYD expands its presence in Japan where consumers have traditionally preferred local brands.
Despite facing a slowdown in sales due to reduced government subsidies for electric vehicles, BYD remains optimistic about its prospects in Japan. The Seal EV comes in two versions – rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive – both equipped with an 82.56 kilowatt per hour battery pack. The rear-wheel-drive model boasts a remarkable cruising range of 640 km, while the all-wheel-drive version can travel 575 km on a single charge.
BYD’s push into the Japanese market began last year with the introduction of the Atto 3 and Dolphin EVs, garnering positive feedback and sales. The company plans to launch at least one new model each year in Japan, signaling its commitment to sustainable transportation solutions in the country.
