Justice Department anticipates WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to enter a guilty plea and be sentenced on Wednesday in a US federal court in the Northern Mariana Islands, as per court documents obtained by Sputnik.
“The Court has agreed to conduct the plea and sentencing proceedings on a single day at both parties’ request, given Assange’s reluctance to travel to the mainland US for his plea. This decision accommodates his return to Australia post-proceedings,” the document outlined.
Assange, an Australian citizen, was imprisoned at London’s Belmarsh prison in April 2019 before facing US charges for exposing war crimes and human rights violations.
