Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi approved the deployment of Frontier Constabulary (FC) in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, raising eyebrows in the region. This decision follows recent deaths allegedly caused by a paramilitary force during violent protests in Muzaffarabad.
The Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) had warned of peaceful sit-ins if detained activists weren’t released by June 25. The meeting between Naqvi and AJK Premier Chaudhry Anwarul Haq focused on law and order, security, and the upcoming budget.
The deployment was approved to maintain peace and security, with Pakistan reaffirming support for development in AJK. Former Premier Niazi sought a debate on the FC deployment in the Legislative Assembly.
Meanwhile, JAAC planned sit-ins at entry points if demands weren’t met, including a judicial commission to investigate incidents and release of detainees. The core committee decided on protests on June 27, 28, and 29 in different divisions.
With tensions rising in AJK, the deployment of paramilitary forces and the threat of protests set the stage for potential unrest in the region.
