US cancels meeting with Israel over Netanyahu’s Biden criticism

The United States has scrapped a crucial meeting with Israel due to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s critique of the Joe Biden administration. Netanyahu denounced the administration for withholding weapons and ammunition from Israel in recent months, a move that led to the cancellation of the scheduled meeting in Washington, where discussions were supposed to center on Iran’s nuclear program.

Instead of the planned delegation led by Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, there will only be a meeting between National Security Council head Tzachi Hanegbi and U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. This decision comes after Biden paused certain arms shipments to Israel, citing concerns about civilian protection.

Israel recently secured a deal to purchase 25 F-35 fighter jets from the U.S. for $3 billion, on top of the $26.4 billion aid package signed by Biden in April. However, this military support has raised criticism from Palestinians who see it as enabling Israel’s prolonged conflict with Gaza.

Israel’s continued offensive on Gaza has resulted in the death of thousands of Palestinians, with widespread devastation and human suffering. The International Court of Justice has even accused Israel of genocide and ordered a halt to its operations in certain areas.
