South Korea names Japan’s hand as next ambassador to Tokyo.

The South Korean government is considering appointing Park Cheol-hee, known for his role in shaping President Yoon Suk-yeol’s diplomatic strategies, as the next ambassador to Japan. Park, who currently leads the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) and specializes in South Korea-Japan relations, is rumored to have extensive connections in Japanese political circles.

Park’s impressive academic background includes a degree from Seoul National University and a Ph.D. in politics from Columbia University. He has previously held key positions at SNU’s Institute for Japanese Studies before taking on his current role as KNDA chancellor last year. With his fluency in Japanese and deep expertise in bilateral relations, Park is poised to further enhance diplomatic ties between South Korea and Japan.
