Scholz acknowledges Germans unhappy with Ukraine aid – RT News

Despite recent disappointing election results, Chancellor Olaf Scholz remains steadfast in his insistence that there is no alternative to arming Kiev amidst the conflict with Russia.

Scholz acknowledged that many Germans are unhappy with their country’s support for Ukraine, leading to a decline in ratings for the center-left Social Democratic Party (SPD). This dissatisfaction has been particularly notable in parts of eastern Germany, where the SPD’s support has plummeted to as low as 7%.

During an interview with ARD broadcaster, Scholz highlighted the need for continued support for Ukraine and the sanctions against Russia despite public opposition. He emphasized that there is no other option but to address these concerns.

Looking ahead to upcoming state elections in Brandenburg, Thuringia, and Saxony, Scholz expressed concerns about the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) potentially winning. Nevertheless, he remained hopeful that other parties would maintain a parliamentary majority.

Despite challenges, Scholz’s commitment to supporting Ukraine remains unwavering, especially as Germany continues to play a significant role in providing military aid to the country.
