The Crisis in Gaza: Protecting Children
The situation in Gaza is dire, with Save the Children reporting that 21,000 Palestinian children are missing. The brutal offensive by Israel has killed thousands of children, leaving many orphaned. Out of the 17,000 children separated from their parents, 4,000 are believed to be dead under the rubble in Gaza.
As the conflict rages on, the UN estimates that 10,000 people, with 40% being children, are buried under the rubble. Humanitarians have warned of the vulnerable state of Gaza’s children, facing malnutrition and psychological damage.
Save the Children is calling on the UK government to halt the transfer of weapons to Israel, emphasizing the urgent need to protect separated and unaccompanied children in the region. Neighbours and extended family members struggling to meet basic needs for these children, increasing the risk of violence and exploitation.
The recent addition of Israel to the ‘list of shame’ by the UN highlights the alarming number of children killed and injured in the Gaza Strip. The international community must act to protect these innocent lives.
