N Macedonia swears in PM amid tensions with EU neighbours

North Macedonia welcomed its new Prime Minister, Hristijan Mickoski, following a parliamentary vote, sparking tensions with EU neighbors Greece and Bulgaria. Mickoski’s nationalist party, VMRO-DPMNE, won the elections in May amidst frustrations over EU progress, causing concern among neighboring countries.

The country’s path to EU membership has faced obstacles, with Bulgaria demanding constitutional changes to recognize its Bulgarian minority. Despite the challenges, Mickoski emphasized his commitment to European integration during his inaugural address, vowing not to yield to Bulgaria’s demands.

With a 24-member cabinet and a strong majority in parliament, Mickoski’s coalition is set to lead North Macedonia. As the country’s 13th prime minister, Mickoski aims to navigate the challenges ahead while standing by the nation’s EU aspirations.
