Revolutionizing Higher Education in Oman: Key Highlights from the Majlis A’Shura Session

During a recent session hosted by Majlis A’Shura, H E Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrouqiya, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, unveiled plans for the formation of a committee dedicated to studying and drafting regulations for the Higher Education Law. This move comes after the promulgation of Royal Decree No 27/2023 in May.

The session delved into various crucial aspects of the ministry’s policies, with a focus on international cooperation, vocational training, scientific research, and innovation. Discussions also highlighted the significance of aligning vocational education with labour market needs, improving admission processes, and enhancing scholarship policies.

Notably, the ministry is in the process of establishing an Omani virtual university to provide accessible higher education through online platforms. Additionally, efforts to attract international students through the ‘Study in Oman’ campaign were emphasized.

Addressing challenges in the sector, H E Rahma shared insights on scholarship allocation, legislative reforms, and strategies to combat forged certificates. The minister’s vision for the future of higher education in Oman places a strong emphasis on inclusivity and quality education.
