The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has scheduled the Policy Meeting on Admissions for tertiary institutions in Nigeria on Friday, July 18, 2024. This meeting will establish the minimum cut-off marks for the 2024/2025 admissions and will be overseen by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, as stated by JAMB Spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin in a recent statement.
The Policy Meeting on admissions is crucial as it sets the foundation for the admission process for the upcoming academic year. It involves key stakeholders such as regulatory agencies, heads of tertiary institutions, and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). During the meeting, reports on the past Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and ongoing Direct Entry (DE) applications will be presented, along with discussions on setting the minimum acceptable admission standards for all tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Stakeholders will also address issues from the previous academic year, evaluate candidates’ performance in the current year’s UTME, and outline the admission requirements for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. The goal is to ensure a smooth and transparent admission process while fostering compliance with existing guidelines.
