The European Union’s (EU) spokesperson for foreign and security policy, Peter Stano, emphasized that any threat to Cyprus is considered a threat to all 27 member states of the bloc. This statement was made in response to Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah’s warning that Cyprus could be dragged into a broader conflict if it allows Israel to use its ports and airports for operations against Lebanon.
Stano reassured that the EU stands firmly behind Cyprus and is actively engaging with various partners in the region, including Lebanon and Hezbollah, to defuse any tensions that may arise. Over the years, Cyprus has strengthened its ties with Israel, particularly due to the discovery of natural gas fields in the waters they share. While hosting joint military exercises, Cyprus has reiterated that it is not involved in any military actions or operations.
Cypriot government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis firmly dismissed any claims of Cyprus participating in military operations in Lebanon and reiterated that the nation is a key player in regional diplomacy, working towards solutions rather than adding to conflicts.
