Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich denies alleged plan for annexation of the West Bank as revealed by The New York Times.

In response to leaked audio, Smotrich claims transparency in his actions, opposing the establishment of a Palestinian state in the West Bank due to perceived threats to Israel.

Promising to prioritize Israeli interests, Smotrich vows to continue settlement development in the country while emphasizing his commitment to protecting the state and its citizens.

Key Details from the Audio Recording:

The recording unveils Smotrich’s strategy to transfer control of the West Bank from the military to civilian employees under his authority, part of a broader plan within the Religious Zionism party’s coalition agreement.

To avoid international scrutiny, a separate civilian system was established under the Defense Ministry’s guise to facilitate control transition, aiming to downplay accusations of annexation.

Despite Smotrich’s claims of Netanyahu’s support, the Prime Minister’s office asserts that territorial decisions will be made through direct negotiations, maintaining a stance of policy continuity.
