Police warn against sharing false info on ‘gang areas’ on social media.

In a recent statement, Gauteng police have called on social media users to refrain from spreading false information about gangs in the province. Police spokesperson Brig Brenda Muridili expressed concern over misleading social media posts inciting fear in communities affected by gang violence.

Muridili clarified that despite recent claims of 13 gang-related deaths, there were only three reported murders in Westbury this week. She reassured that interventions were in place in gang-affected areas like Eldorado Park and Riverlea, with extra deployments and arrests of suspects like Morgan John “Big John”.

The anti-gang unit has made significant progress, resulting in the arrest of 106 suspects for various offenses and the seizure of firearms and drugs. Muridili emphasized that these efforts have led to a reduction in gang violence, urging social media users to share accurate information and report crime to authorities.
