The Model Town Firing Incident: Witnesses Speak Up
Six defense witnesses in an anti-terrorism court testified that armed workers of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) were responsible for opening fire during a 2014 anti-encroachment operation in Model Town, Lahore. The witnesses, who live near the scene, recounted how the workers attacked police and district officials outside Dr. Tahirul Qadri’s residence.
According to the witnesses, the PAT workers fired from rooftops and threw petrol bombs, prompting the police to respond with tear gas to clear barricades. The trial has seen 104 witnesses already, shedding light on the tragic event that claimed 10 lives and left around 100 injured.
Despite legal complexities and challenges, the push for justice continues. PAT’s legal spokesperson emphasized the need for an impartial investigation, urging the Lahore High Court to address pending petitions related to the incident. The search for truth and accountability in the Model Town tragedy remains a priority in the pursuit of justice.
