During Eid al-Adha in Qatar, Jordanian workers sent approximately $22 million (JD15.6 million) back home. This represented a 4.54% increase from the previous year. Holidays and special occasions usually see a spike in remittances from Jordanian expatriates in Qatar, with many sending money to family members in Jordan to cover expenses and financial needs.
Jordanians prefer using exchange companies for transfers due to lower fees compared to banks. The increasing Jordanian population in Qatar, now close to 75,000, is reflected in the growing volume of remittances. The Qatari initiative to employ Jordanian youth has also played a significant role in this growth, with around 10,000 Jordanians already employed in government and private sectors, and more opportunities to follow.
Jordanians in Qatar work across various industries, including finance, real estate, construction, hospitality, IT, and education. The ease and efficiency of financial transfers, coupled with the job opportunities for Jordanians in Qatar, contribute to the continued growth in remittances from this community.
