Internet aiding terrorism, separatism in J-K: DGP Swain

Jammu: Director General of Police R R Swain emphasized the growing threat of terrorism and separatism in Jammu and Kashmir facilitated by the internet. He mentioned that Pakistani handlers are using the virtual world to push infiltrators and smuggle weapons into the Union Territory.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Cyber Police Station in Jammu, Swain highlighted the significant role of cyberspace in sustaining terrorism with 75% of the challenge connected to it. He raised concerns about foreign WhatsApp and telegram services diluting the sovereignty of licensed telecom providers, posing a security challenge.

Swain explained how Pakistan-based handlers use the internet to plan attacks, facilitating infiltration, arms delivery, and coordination without detection. He stressed the need for a counter plan to tackle cyber crimes that threaten national security.

The DGP highlighted the establishment of cyber police stations in all districts of Jammu and Kashmir to address cyber crimes related to fraud, exploitation, and borderless transactions cutting across nations.

He concluded by affirming the commitment of law enforcement agencies to strengthen cyber security measures and win the war against cyber threats.
