PTI lawmakers staged a protest march from the National Assembly to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) office, demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner and other officials. The opposition criticized the ECP for failing to conduct free and fair elections, accusing the body of not utilizing the budget allocated for elections.
Former speaker of the National Assembly, Asad Qaiser, claimed that a situation was deliberately created on May 9 last year to target the PTI. He mentioned that despite approval for negotiations with the government, no talks were taking place.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan highlighted the challenges faced by the opposition, including alleged court obstruction and the detention of former premier Imran Khan. Meanwhile, PTI leader Raoof Hasan urged the chief justice to take notice of an interview where accusations were made against retired general Qamar Javed Bajwa.
Mr Hasan demanded a judicial commission to investigate these claims and criticized the imposition of Section 144 in Punjab. The protest aimed to amplify the PTI’s voice in parliament and address concerns of unfair treatment.
