Cyprus Communists urge severing Israeli ties after Hezbollah alert

Cypriot Communists call for an end to cooperation with Israeli occupation during Gaza aggression

The Communist Initiative of Cyprus (CIC) has issued a strong demand for the Cypriot government to cease all collaboration with the Israeli occupation in light of the ongoing aggression in Gaza. The CIC’s statement condemned President Nikos Christodoulides and his administration for their involvement in what the CIC describes as a crime against the Palestinian people.

The CIC emphasized the need to disengage Cyprus from the war on Gaza and other imperialist interventions, dismantle British military bases on the island, and stop all forms of support to the Israeli occupation. They called on the Cypriot working class and progressive individuals to join their struggle against imperialism and unjust wars.

Highlighting the strategic role of British bases in Cyprus against Palestine and other regions targeted by NATO, the CIC criticized the government’s complicity in facilitating Israeli military operations. They aim to achieve the recognition of an independent Palestinian state and an end to violence in occupied territories.

In response to warnings from Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, the Cypriot government assured that it is not involved in any wars and maintains excellent relations with Lebanon. The government emphasized that all negotiations will be conducted at a diplomatic level.
