CET admissions possibly delayed amid NEET controversy.

Bengaluru: The NEET controversy is causing a delay in seat allotment through the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) for undergraduate engineering and other courses this year. The Supreme Court’s ruling that counselling for medical courses based on NEET should start from July 6 has pushed back the start of the allocation process in Karnataka, as the all-India quota must be completed first.

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) needs at least 40 days to complete all rounds of seat allotment, which may impact engineering admissions. While medical seats under the all-India quota are allocated centrally, seats under the state quota are assigned by the KEA. Officials are concerned that the timeline may not align with the AICTE’s schedule of September 15 for engineering admissions.

Despite the challenges, KEA is confident in their ability to meet the deadlines. However, if needed, the government will seek an extension from AICTE. Students and parents are anxious about the situation, especially with COMEDK announcing their schedule separately. However, COMEDK reassures that starting their schedule earlier will not disadvantage Karnataka students.
