A nuclear-powered United States aircraft carrier, the USS Theodore Roosevelt, has arrived in South Korea to participate in a military exercise aimed at countering North Korean threats intensified by its recent alliance with Russia. The exercise, named Freedom Edge, involves the United States, South Korea, and Japan, focusing on enhancing their combined response capabilities across different domains.

The arrival of the USS Theodore Roosevelt comes in the wake of South Korea’s protest against the defense pact between Russia and North Korea, which South Korea perceives as a security threat. The three-way exercise seeks to demonstrate a strong defense posture against increasing North Korean aggression, with a particular focus on air, sea, and cyberspace operations.

In recent months, the United States, South Korea, and Japan have bolstered their joint training efforts and heightened the presence of strategic military assets in the region to deter North Korean provocations.
