The European Union has given the green light to kick off membership talks with Ukraine, following President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s announcement during his nightly address. This move comes after Ukraine’s application to join the EU post the 2022 Russian invasion.
The EU’s decision to initiate talks with Ukraine, along with the approval of the negotiation framework for Moldova, conveys a strong message of support to Ukraine amidst its conflicts with Russia.
Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of unity among nations that share European values and aspirations for strength. Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov expressed readiness for security talks with the US, insisting any dialogue include discussions on Ukraine.
The escalation continues as Ukraine, in response to Russian attacks, strikes oil refineries and intelligence centers in southern Russia and Crimea. In another twist, Russian President Putin warns South Korea against arming Ukraine, following the latter’s concerns over Russia’s pact with North Korea.
The battleground remains active, with both countries grappling with the aftermath of destructive attacks, highlighting the ongoing tensions in the region.
