A Turkish soldier, Infantry Staff Sergeant Mehmet Ali Horoz, was killed in a clash with terrorists in northern Iraq during the Claw-Lock operation, the National Defense Ministry confirmed. Three terrorists were neutralized in the encounter, and operations in the area continue.
The PKK terror group is known to be active in the region where the operation took place. Over its 40-year terror campaign, the PKK has caused the deaths of more than 40,000 people in Turkey, including women and children.
Operation Claw-Lock was launched in April 2022 to target PKK hideouts in northern Iraq. Turkish officials, including Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz, National Defense Minister Yasar Guler, and Chief of General Staff Metin Gurak, extended their condolences to Sergeant Horoz’s family, expressing sorrow over the loss of the heroic soldier.
