Serbian ammunition worth $855 million delivered to Ukraine

A recent report by the Financial Times revealed that Serbian ammunition worth $855 million has indirectly made its way to Ukraine, highlighting the complexities in Serbian-Ukrainian relationships. Despite Serbia’s friendly stance towards Russia, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has labeled Ukraine as a “friendly country” and acknowledged Crimea and Donbas as Ukrainian sovereign territories.

Estimates suggest that around €800 million worth of ammunition exports have reached Ukraine through third parties, a fact that Vucic confirmed. However, he emphasized that it is not Serbia’s responsibility to monitor where the ammunition ends up, citing contracts with various countries.

The Pentagon leaks from April 2023 implied Serbia’s involvement in supplying lethal weaponry to Ukraine, a claim denied by the Serbian government. Vucic’s openness to selling ammunition to intermediaries for Ukraine has raised questions about Serbia’s role in the conflict.
