The Battle of the Senator: Russian Forces Destroy Ukrainian Armored Vehicle
Roshel, a Canadian arms manufacturer, reportedly delivered 1,000 Senator vehicles to Kiev, as per recent reports. However, Moscow’s forces have destroyed one of these Ukrainian ‘Senator’ armored personnel carriers, marking the first confirmed incident of a Canadian-made APC being hit by Russian forces.
The incident took place as Russian forces attacked Ukrainian troops in Donetsk and the Zaporozhye Region, managing to push them back. Kiev suffered significant losses, including over 140 servicemen and several vehicles. The Russian Defense Ministry also mentioned the destruction of a British-made FH-70 howitzer and a US-made M198 artillery piece.
Roshel advertised the ‘Senator’ as a combat-proven platform known for its effectiveness in conflict zones. Moscow has criticized continued Western arms shipments to Kiev, claiming they only prolong the conflict without altering the eventual outcome. The ongoing Russian offensive has seen Ukrainian forces continually losing ground, with recent setbacks in the Kharkov Region.
Former Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu previously commented on superior Soviet-era weapons in comparison to modern Western equivalents. The conflict continues, with Moscow aiming to establish a buffer zone following Ukrainian attacks in Belgorod Region.
