President Andrzej Duda Addresses Treatment of Soldiers at Polish-Belarusian Border

President Andrzej Duda recently commented on the treatment of soldiers detained at the Polish-Belarusian border near Dubicze Cerkiewne. He clarified that despite rumors of harsh measures, the soldiers did not complain about their detention. In fact, none of them reported any issues, emphasizing their satisfaction with the conditions.

Discussions with Military Police

President Duda disclosed that he had extensive discussions with the local commander of the Military Police regarding the incident. While he opposed extreme actions against the soldiers, he acknowledged the complexity of the situation. Duda called for a thorough investigation to determine the soldiers’ possible guilt while cautioning against exaggerations and rumors.

The soldiers were detained for firing warning shots at approaching migrants, leading to charges of exceeding authority and endangering lives. In response, the defense ministry proposed legal changes to address inconsistencies in current laws and clarify the responsible use of force in similar situations.

Cooperation with Defense Minister

Despite differing political backgrounds, President Duda praised his cooperation with Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. Their positive working relationship focuses on ensuring national security and supporting the soldiers stationed at the border.
