Welcome to Madrid: Spanish Minister Warmly Welcomes Turkish Family Rescued from Earthquake
Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles extended a warm welcome to a Turkish family rescued by the Spanish Emergency Military Unit (UME) from the rubble in Gaziantep province after devastating earthquakes struck southern Türkiye. Robles hosted Elif, Mahsun Salih, and Leyla Yilmaz at the ministry, expressing joy at their safety and declaring Spain as their new home.
Robles commended the courage of the earthquake survivor mother and promised support for the children’s education. She thanked the UME personnel for their bravery in saving lives, while Leyla Yilmaz expressed gratitude to the Spanish people for their solidarity.
The UME soldiers involved in the rescue called it a “miracle” and expressed a desire to see the family again in Spain or visit them in Nurdagi. The successful rescue of Leyla Yilmaz and her children highlighted the collaborative efforts of dedicated individuals in the face of a natural disaster.
