Left-Wing Parties in France Pledge to Revoke Macron’s Pension Reform if Elected

The New Popular Front, a coalition of France’s left-wing parties, pledges to reverse President Macron’s pension reform and reduce the retirement age to 60 if they win the upcoming snap elections.

“If we win, we will present a major bill for a pension at 60 before 2027, in collaboration with social partners,” said lawmaker Eric Coquerel from La France Insoumise party.

Macron’s reform will be scrapped as early as 2024 if the coalition is successful, with plans for a conference to discuss lowering the retirement age.

A tax on high incomes will help finance the proposed pension scheme.

The “Pension at 60” movement gained traction in protests earlier, with over a million participants, leading to the reform’s initial implementation in 2023.
