A civil society activist has supported the concerns raised by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar regarding the Tumaini Initiative, calling on the chief mediator to reconsider his views.

Dr. Machar expressed his concerns about a draft constitutional document that he believes is designed to replace the 2018 peace deal. He highlighted that the document does not recognize the revitalized agreement and proposes alternative institutions to run in parallel.

Acting chairperson of the South Sudan Civil Society Alliance, Debak Mabior Arok, agreed with Dr. Machar’s views and urged for inclusivity in the Tumaini Initiative. He emphasized the need for the initiative to complement the revitalized peace agreement rather than stand alone.
