KP Government Forms JIT to Probe Swat Lynching Incident
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has established a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate the recent lynching incident in Swat. The nine-member JIT will be led by the Superintendent of Police (SP) Investigation, with officials from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) also involved.
The incident occurred in Madyan, where a tourist was brutally killed by a violent mob on accusations of blasphemy. Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal condemned the incident and called for an end to such ‘street justice’. He emphasized the need for a parliamentary committee to address these acts of mob violence and uphold the rule of law.
This tragic event underscores the dangers of vigilante justice and the urgent need for authorities to take decisive action. The formation of the JIT marks a crucial step towards ensuring accountability and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
