The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is cracking down on extortion and illicit activities carried out by touts at Nigerian airports. Managing Director, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, has vowed to put an end to the harassment and extortion of unsuspecting passengers by touts, ensuring a pleasant travel experience for all.
To combat these illegal activities, FAAN has appointed Henry Agbebire to head a committee dedicated to fighting against the perpetrators. Kuku also announced plans to work closely with government agencies at airports to enforce anti-touting measures. Magistrate courts will be established at international airports to expedite legal proceedings against offenders.
FAAN is also implementing measures such as setting up dedicated phone lines and QR codes for passenger feedback, as well as requiring airport staff to display their on-duty cards and name tags for easy identification. This crackdown comes after FAAN issued a warning against bribes and extortion during the Eid-el-Kabir holiday, ensuring travelers of a smooth and safe journey.
With FAAN’s zero-tolerance policy in effect, passengers can expect a more secure and professional airport experience, free from the illegal activities of touts.\
