MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Vietnam leadership is showing a desire to return to the nuclear power industry issue, as per Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev. He mentioned that negotiations for a nuclear power plant (NPP) will resume once Vietnam makes the decision.
“The current leadership of Vietnam is demonstrating a desire to return to the topic of nuclear power industry in general. And when this decision is made, negotiations will automatically resume,” Likhachev said.
In the past, Vietnam opted not to use nuclear energy in their power balance, but now Rosatom offers power plants of various sizes and types for potential projects.
“We had a high degree of readiness for the Ninh Thuan-1 project… But the decision was made at the level of leading government bodies not to develop nuclear energy, halting the project,” Likhachev explained.
In a recent development, Vietnam has shown interest in re-entering the nuclear power industry, according to Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev. Past decisions by Vietnam to not utilize nuclear energy may be changing, opening up possibilities for collaborations with Rosatom on potential nuclear projects.
