Ukraine has responded to Israel’s introduction of electronic visas by stating that they will also impose similar requirements for Israeli citizens, including pilgrims. The Ukrainian embassy emphasized that this new requirement will impact religious pilgrims visiting Ukraine, particularly the thousands of Breslover Hasidim who celebrate Jewish New Year in Uman. The embassy expressed willingness to engage in dialogue with Israel to negotiate these travel policy changes for the benefit of both nations.
Ukrainian Ambassador Evgeny Kornichuk protested the treatment of Ukrainians entering Israel and warned that pilgrims could bear the brunt of Kiev’s retaliation. Kiev has also criticized Israel for not granting asylum protections to Ukrainian refugees, focusing instead on Jewish Ukrainian immigrants.
