Bantu Holomisa’s UDM has officially joined the ANC-led government of national unity (GNU), making them the latest party to do so. In a letter to the ANC secretary-general, Holomisa expressed his satisfaction with the discussions held between the two parties and accepted the invitation to be part of the GNU.
The UDM now joins other parties like the DA, IFP, Good, PA, and PAC in supporting the ANC-led government. The ANC has expressed willingness to collaborate with all parties in parliament to strengthen the GNU, except for the MK Party and the EFF who have chosen not to join.
Despite unsuccessful negotiations with the EFF and MK Party due to unrealistic demands, the UDM and other parliamentary parties had requested a meeting facilitated by chief justice Raymond Zondo to discuss the agenda of the seventh administration, which was later denied. Holomisa commended the ANC for explaining the draft statement of intent for the 2024 government of national unity and expressed support for the proposed national dialogue and establishment of a technical committee to scrutinize manifestoes.
It seems the South African political landscape is evolving with strategic collaborations and discussions aimed at shaping the future of the country.
