Sudan’s RSF captures El-Fula, West Kordofan capital

Sudan’s RSF captures El-Fula, West Kordofan capital

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group announced the seizure of El-Fula, the capital of West Kordofan state, after clashes with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), resulting in civilian casualties. Videos showing RSF leaders in control were released as the city’s military base was captured. Humanitarian organizations expressed concern over the impact on civilians in the vital oil-crossroad city.

RSF claimed victory, while reports indicated casualties from the confrontations. The Sudanese military remained silent on the loss of El-Fula, retreating to Babanusa. El-Fula’s strategic location near borders and oil fields makes it a significant point for export pipelines.

The West Kordofan government called for mobilization against the RSF’s advance, following warnings of their intentions to take El-Fula. The city had provided shelter to those fleeing conflict in other Sudanese areas, as noted by the Babnusa Emergency Room.
