Russian President Vladimir Putin has revealed plans to enhance the Russian nuclear triad to maintain strategic deterrence, signaling a message to NATO amidst geopolitical tensions.
Putin hinted at changes in Russia’s nuclear doctrine in response to the West’s discussions about using low-yield nuclear weapons, emphasizing that preemptive strikes are not part of Russia’s strategy.
“There are no changes related to…strategic nuclear forces…in the basic documents,” Kornev explained.
Russia has outlined four conditions for nuclear weapon use, aiming to prevent escalations that could threaten its existence based on a published policy document.
“A more detailed description of these conditions may most likely follow,” Kornev added.
Significantly, Russia cautions against the notion of limited nuclear strikes, warning about the indiscriminate consequences of any nuclear use worldwide.
In the past, the US has flirted with deploying low-yield nuclear weapons, but these actions have faced criticism and warnings from Russia against lowering the nuclear threshold.
