The leader of the opposition Tavush for the Homeland movement, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, visited Kirants village in Tavush, Armenia, where villagers disputed the presence of a barbed wire fence at the border with Azerbaijan. Despite government claims, no such barrier was found in the area.
Galstanyan emphasized the violation of people’s rights due to the unilateral handing over of Armenian lands to Azerbaijan, calling for legal action to be taken. He vowed to work towards removing those responsible for the land transfer from power.
The protests led by Galstanyan began following the agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan to start border delimitation in Tavush. After demanding PM Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation and rallying in Yerevan, Galstanyan announced a transitional government with himself as the PM candidate.
Galstanyan’s efforts to protect Armenian borders and rights have gained momentum, rallying support for a change in leadership and accountability for the land transfer.
