Kano govt asserts Sanusi as Emir despite court ruling on Ado-Bayero

• Court lacks jurisdiction, Odinkalu, Sani, others, declare
• Adegboruwa calls for calm

Amid controversy, a Federal High Court in Kano has overturned the dethronement of Emir Aminu Ado-Bayero and four other Emirs. The court nullified the Kano State Government’s actions to split the Kano Emirates into five. The ruling sparked discord as the Kano State government claimed it reinstates Sanusi II as Emir.

However, the State Attorney General confirmed the ruling’s acknowledgement and its implications. Meanwhile, dissenting voices including Prof Odinkalu and lawyer Abubakar Sani questioned the court’s jurisdiction in the matter.

The court order set aside the state government’s actions and was met with mixed reactions from legal experts. The controversy surrounding chieftaincy matters and jurisdiction was a focal point of discussion.

In a bid for peace, lawyer Ebun Olu Adegboruwa urged calm and adherence to legal processes. While the Kano government maintained the Emir’s position remains unchanged, the debate around court rulings and appeals continues.

Despite the legal intricacies, maintaining calm and respect for judicial processes is crucial for the preservation of democracy and rule of law.
