A recent report from local sources reveals that foreign ships are illicitly depleting fish resources in the waters off Mocha, west of Taiz Governorate, within Yemen’s territorial waters in the Red Sea.

These foreign ships, suspected to be Emirati, have been observed using advanced equipment to indiscriminately dredge fish just 20 nautical miles off the coast of Mocha district, despite the presence of complicit forces.

Yemeni fishermen in the area have expressed concerns over the ongoing illegal fishing practices and the systematic destruction of fish populations and coral reefs within their waters. This has led to a severe depletion in fish populations, hindering reproduction, and causing environmental devastation in marine ecosystems.

Additionally, Eritrean forces have been reported to detain Yemeni fishermen, further exacerbating the economic struggles of coastal residents.
