FG trains 60 health workers on maternal, infant nutrition

The Federal Government has initiated a training program for 60 health workers focusing on nutrition to improve maternal, infant, and young child nutrition communication. The eight-day capacity-building exercise, led by Mrs. Ladidi Bako-Aiyegbusi, aims to enhance the country’s Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) practices. Supported by the World Bank and the Federal Government, the project is part of a five-year nutrition program called “Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria.”

The goal is to provide quality and cost-effective nutrition services for pregnant and lactating women, adolescent girls, and children under five years of age. The training will equip participants with updated information on MIYCN best practices and focus on improving maternal nutrition, delivery practices, and infant feeding. Poor nutrition indices in the country are attributed to a lack of knowledge, prompting a need for education on healthy feeding practices. The training will enhance the skills and knowledge of health workers and volunteers to educate communities on proper nutrition practices.
