The Falkland Islands Tourist Board Executive Director Steph Middleton shared insights from recent international conferences where discussions were held with key stakeholders in the tourism industry. Middleton highlighted the importance of strategic planning to manage the influx of cruise visitors while maintaining sustainability.
She emphasized the need for thorough research on ‘clash days’, when multiple cruise vessels coincide in port, to make informed decisions to enhance visitor experience. Middleton urged destinations to focus on enhancing infrastructure rather than restricting vessel access.
During the meeting, Middleton presented recommendations based on discussions with local businesses and tourism professionals to address the impact of ‘clash days’. The Board is set to finalize these recommendations before presenting them to the Government for approval.
