The Tories Face Campaign Setbacks Amidst Gambling Row
A former Tory minister has warned that the Conservative Party is facing setbacks during the general election campaign, with the ongoing gambling row causing further damage. Paul Scully highlighted that the Tories were already facing a tough “punishment election” on July 4, but recent problems and gaffes have only made it easier for voters to punish them even further.
During an interview on GB News, Mr. Scully acknowledged that things have gone from bad to worse for the Tories since Rishi Sunak triggered the election. He expressed concern that the party is essentially “shooting ourselves in the foot” with only two feet to stand on, making it challenging to recover from missteps in the eyes of the electorate.
Moreover, several senior Conservative party members are now under investigation by the gambling watchdog due to allegations that they placed bets on the July election date before it was officially announced.
