Uttar Pradesh is the worst-affected having reported 37 deaths followed by Bihar, Rajasthan and Odisha, as per the data compiled under the National Heat-Related Illness and Death Surveillance by the National Centre for Disease Control
The scorching heatwave across the country has led to at least 114 fatalities and over 40,984 cases of suspected heatstroke between March and June. Uttar Pradesh tops the list with 37 deaths, followed by Bihar, Rajasthan, and Odisha as per the National Centre for Disease Control.
Health Minister JP Nadda has urged officials to ensure proper care for heatwave victims and set up dedicated units in hospitals. With temperatures soaring, the government issued advisories to hospitals and state health departments to prepare for higher temperatures and heat-related illnesses.
The advisory includes guidelines for prevention, early warning dissemination, and necessary supplies for treating heatstroke patients. Adequate hydration, access to medical facilities, and cooling systems are emphasized to mitigate the impact of extreme heat.
It is crucial for healthcare facilities to be prepared for heat emergencies, provide timely intervention, and support patients effectively during heatwaves to minimize casualties and ensure public safety.
